What is Terra fertilis®?

It is an organic soil amendment consisting mostly of carbon (approximately 90%) and nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, zinc, etc.). It is obtained by wood pyrolysis, a process which allows all of the pores of the wood to open up and thus obtain a 100% plant-based carbonated material, ultra-adsorbent and very stable in the soil.

How does Terra fertilis® work?

Terra fertilis® interacts with the soil at different levels:

– At the chemical level: Thanks to its high specific surface, it improves the retention of nutrients and limits leaching.

– At the physical level: On the one hand, Terra fertilis® improves the water-retention capacity of light and free-draining soils, and on the other hand it aerates and increases the workability of heavy soils and soils susceptible to compaction.

– At the biological level: Terra fertilis® stimulates the biological activity of the soil by providing the micro-organisms with multiple habitats they will progressively colonize.

Finally, Terra fertilis® allows long-term improvement to the structure of the soil: better nourished and developing in an environment more conducive to their growth, plants will be more vigorous and more resistant.

How to use Terra fertilis®?

As pure Terra fertilis® will fix the nutrients in the soil that will potentially be less available to plants, it is recommended to “charge” the product with nutrients before its application: that is to say, mix it with compost, earthworm castings, manure, fertilizer, etc.
Once incorporated into the soil, the nutrients will be retained by Terra fertilis®, and therefore are less sensitive to leaching, and available for plants at the time they need them.

All the usage recommendations below can be carried out with Terra fertilis® + activator: in this case, the application of the mixture replaces a fertilizer and additional fertilization is not necessary.

Use in pots and planters:

  1. a) Sowing:
  • Spread Terra fertilis® over the surface of the soil/potting compost and mix it into the top few centimetres: “scratch” the surface of the earth to incorporate the product in a superficial manner. Water, then sow the seeds.
  • Quantity of TF required: approximately 10% of the volume of the soil/substrate contained in the pot/tray
  1. b) Planting out (seedlings):
  • Homogeneously mix Terra fertilis® into the soil/potting compost. Then plant and water.
  • Quantity of TF required: approximately 10% of the volume of the soil/substrate contained in the pot/tray
  1. c) Adult plants:
  • Spread Terra fertilis®over the surface of the soil, around the root of the plant. Incorporate it into the top few centimetres of the soil, then water.
  • Quantity of Terra fertilis® required: approximately 10% of the volume of the soil/substrate contained in the pot/tray

Use in the vegetable garden:

  • Mix Terra fertilis® into compost, diluted compost tea, manure or fertilizer, and let it ripen/stand.
  • Quantity of Terra fertilis® required: approximately 10% of the volume of the compost/fertilizer.
  • Use the compost mixed with Terra Fertilis® as usual: incorporated into the surface or mixed with the earth.

In arboriculture and viticulture:

  1. a) Planting out (seedlings):
  • Incorporate Terra fertilis® in the planting hole by mixing with the soil/substrate and a nitrogen-rich material (manure, compost…), then water.
  • Quantity of Terra fertilis® required: approximately 10% of the volume of the soil excavated from the planting hole.
  1. b) Adult plants:
  • Spread Terra fertilis® around the foot of the tree or shrub, ideally incorporating it into the top 5 to 10 cm of the soil.
  • Quantity of Terra fertilis® required: depending on the size of the tree (12 kg/m3). For a vine, calculate 100 to 150 g/stem.
  • Always apply the amendment before an input of fertilizer

Use in market gardening:

  1. a) Sowing:
  • Spread Terra fertilis® along the row and incorporate into the soil to a depth of 5 to 10 cm. Water and sow.
  • Quantity of Terra fertilis® required: approximately 1 kg per 20 linear metres.
  1. b) Existing crops:
  • Spread Terra fertilis® along the row of vegetables and incorporate superficially without damaging the roots of the plants.
  • Quantity of Terra fertilis® required: approximately 1 kg per 20 linear metres.
  • Always apply the amendment before an input of fertilizer.
Can Terra fertilis® have a detrimental effect on plants?

If it is applied in apure state and in too large a quantity,Terra fertilis® can absorb the nutrients from the soil and make them less available for plants, and dry out the soil if there is no irrigation after application, and if the soil is already dry.

It is easy to avoid these negative effects: firstly by “charging” Terra fertilis® before application, or by continuing with fertilizer inputs as usual (it is then possible to reduce the dosage, but not to remove them altogether). Secondly, by watering after applicationapplication if the soil is dry. Finally, the maximum recommended dose is 30% of the volume of soil/substrate to which Terra fertilis® is to be incorporated.

Is there a risk of overdose?

Yes and no. Terra fertilis® is an inert amendment which will not have immediate negative effects on the plant. However, applied in a too great quantity, the amendment could dry out soil that is already dry, or fix the nutrients present in an already poor soil. To avoid these negative effects, the maximum recommended dose of Terra fertilis® is 30% of the volume of soil/substrate to which it is to be incorporated..

Is Terra fertilis® dangerous to my health/for my skin?

No. Terra Fertilis® is harmless and contains no toxic elements. .
Due to its adsorbing capacities, Terra Fertilis® may tend to dry out the skin. It is enough to put on gloves during application.
Also avoid inhaling the amendment in powder form.

Where should I store Terra fertilis®?

Terra fertilis® can easily be stored under shelter.
The amendment will tend to fix any gases and particles contained in the air: be sure to close the bag. If the storage place is damp, Terra fertilis® may increase its weight by adsorbing the humidity of the air, but this in no way alters its properties or effects on the soil.

How long can Terra fertilis® be stored?

Terra fertilis® is a very stable amendment and its quality and properties will not alter over time. It may be stored under shelter without any problem for dozens of years.

When to use Terra fertilis®?

Terra fertilis® can be used at any stage of cultivation:before sowing, when planting out, on adult plants… all that is necessary is to incorporate it into the soil.

Pure Terra fertilis® is best applied beforea contribution of fertilizer,in order to take advantage of the nutrient-fixing capacity of the amendment.

How do I remove Terra fertilis® from my clothing/my skin?

A simple wash with clean water and soap or in a washing machine is sufficient.
